PRAYER WARRIORSWhat talents has God given you that you can share with Hand in Hand?
Hand in Hand Recovery can use your talents to assist in our mission. We always need volunteers to help plan and execute our fundraising events. You may be a planner. You may be a connector. You may be someone who can check-in guests at an event. Maybe you are good at fixing things. (We always have something that is broken; washers, dryers, vehicles, plumbing, etc.) Can you teach a class, lead a bible study or be a spiritual mentor? Whatever your talent, we invite you to walk with us in service. Please fill out our volunteer application and we will be in touch with you soon. |
VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT Kathy and Stan Perushek have been dedicated servants of Hand in Hand Recovery since its inception 10 years ago. After retirement, they wanted to give back in a meaningful way and decided to help the men in Hand in Hand Recovery through their church. They felt that a faith-based approach gives those struggling with addiction a solid chance of overcoming their issues. Their selflessness and commitment have made a significant impact on the lives of many individuals in the program.
Kathy recalls the dedication of the first house. “It was just awesome! Who would have ever thought we’d get that far? That first step was an incredible endorsement by God that this could go somewhere and really be a blessing.” Stan began helping by driving the men to appointments and picking up donated items for the former thrift store. One day, when he was returning the van, he was asked about stepping in to teach a class. He agreed to give it a try, and for the past 7 years, he has been faithfully leading the Anger Management class. “They keep calling me back so I figure I’m doing all right,” he chuckled. A former Milwaukee police officer, Stan has encountered many men on the streets in dire straits, sparking his interest in seeing people turn their lives around. Stan believes in the transformative power of recovery programs like Hand in Hand Recovery, where men and women struggling with addiction can find a path to heal and reintegrate into the community, offering a better alternative to incarceration. Kathy has a background in database analysis and began helping Hand in Hand with data entry and donation management. She faithfully and meticulously helps track donations and sends out the annual end-of-year statements. “Anything we can do to help and encourage people who are struggling but trying to take charge of their lives, to help them find their identity in Christ, not in the world, is what God wants us to do.” Kathy and Stan have also been a part of the Trailblazers Christian outdoor group that has gone on many camping trips with the men over the years. Getting to be able to spend time bonding with the men and enjoying God’s creation has been memorable and heartwarming. Stan and Kathy’s unwavering dedication to Hand in Hand Recovery serves as an inspiration to everyone around them, demonstrating the power of compassion and faith in making a positive difference in the community. They encourage others to step out of their comfort zone and engage with individuals who have faced challenging backgrounds to break the stigmas associated with addiction. “We have a heart for these men and women. God seems to be blessing Hand in Hand Recovery. It’s been great to see the expansion.” |
